The
Thermae Palace Spa and Thalassotherapy Center is located in
the center of Portorož, a modern resort town on the Slovene
coast.
According
to history, the natural healing elements here such as salt pan
mud (fango), sea water, and brine ( acqua madre) were used by
roman soldiers and in the 13th century by the Benedictine
monks from the Sv. Lovrenc monastery. Health resort tourism
in the modern meaning of the word began to develop in 1885 when
a small hotel and a building for thalassotherapy treatments
were erected. The original hotel and health offer was expanded
at the beginning of this century, and in 1911 the Hotel Palace,
then called the Kurhotel Palace, was completed. Soon afterwards,
the first electrotheraph was introduced. Today, the Thermae
Palace Spa divides its offer into three segments: a thermal
and recreation center ( a complex of covered pools, saunas,
sun terrace, and fitness studio), a beauty center, and thalassotherapy.
Since
June 1,1988, our thalassotherapy offer has been enriched with
new services and completely renovated facilities, and the newly
renovated Apollo and Mirna hotels reopened on March 31, 1999.
