Tradition
says that even many centuries ago, people sought for pleasure
and soothed their difficulties in the healing springs below
the forested slopes of the Rudnica hills. In the 17th
and the 18th centuries, the Pauline monks from Olimje
also exploited their healing effects in connection with their
pharmacy, one of the oldest still in existence in Europe.
The
ancient and more recent history of the springs is rich with
small but fateful events and decisions, but most of all, it
is closely connected with the work of individuals loyal to their
area and the wider area along the Sotla River. The wells were
deepened with the help of geologists, the water was diverted
to a site more suitable for infrastructure, and the media and
the professional institutions recognized the important of the
wells. In the mid 1960’s, a firm foundation was established
mostly through the efforts, plans, and vision of the local people
on which a modern health resort with a rich offer bloomed, the
pride of Podčetrtek and the surrounding area.
